Walcott gets hat trick in England rout

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) Theo Walcott scored a hat trick and Wayne Rooney ended his international scoring drought as England beat Croatia 4-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, avenging two recent defeats against the Balkan nation.

"We played well, like a team and without problems," England coach Fabio Capello said. "But, this is only one victory, a good performance and nothing else."

Walcott gave England the lead in the 26th minute, taking advantage of a botched clearance from Danijel Pranjic that hit teammate Josip Simunic before falling to the Arsenal forward, who scored with a low shot from a tight angle.

Luxembourg shocks Swiss 2-1 in qualifier

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) Fons Leweck scored an 86th-minute winner Wednesday as Luxembourg shocked Switzerland 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier.

Former Bundesliga player Jeff Strasser gave the visitors the lead with a free kick in the 28th before Blaise Nkufo equalized in the 43rd by heading in a cross from Hakan Yakin. (MORE)

Klose's 3 goals salvage draw vs. Finland

HELSINKI, Finland (AP) Miroslav Klose scored a hat trick Wednesday to help Germany come back and earn a point at Finland in a 3-3 World Cup qualifying draw.

Finland led three times, with goals from Jonatan Johansson in the 33rd minute, Petri Vayrynen in the 43rd and Daniel Sjolund in the 53rd. (MORE)

10-man Bolivia earns 0-0 draw at Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) Brazil was booed off Engenhao Stadium after it was held by 10-man Bolivia to 0-0 in South American World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

The result left the Brazilians with 13 points, four less than leader Paraguay after eight matches. Despite the draw, Bolivia remains last in the 10-team standings with five points. (MORE)

Denmark rallies to stun Portugal 3-2

LISBON, Portugal (AP) Denmark scored three goals in the last eight minutes Wednesday to upset Portugal 3-2 in a World Cup qualifier.

Daniel Jensen headed in the winner during injury time as the Danes staged a late comeback, stunning Portugal, which had outplayed its opponent for most of the game but squandered too many scoring chances. (MORE)
